Our delivery system includes school counseling curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services and system support. Please feel free to call or email regarding any questions about our department.

Counseling Referral Form: Please use this referral form for students enrolled at Aki Kurose School experiencing sudden or concerning changes, such as personal or family challenges. Please note, the Aki Kurose Counseling form is intended to provide access to non-emergent school counseling support services. The Counseling team at Aki monitor the referral form regularly and will respond to your request within 48-72 hours or sooner while school is in session except holiday breaks and summer vacation.  If this is an emergency, please call 911.

Scholarships for SPS Students

Scholarships are a type of grant (monetary gift you do not have to pay back) for students to use in paying for after high school training and college programs. Scholarships are available for students as early as elementary school and continue through graduate school.

Federal and State programs provide over 46 billion dollars in student aid. Private companies, community organizations, civic groups, foundations, and religious organizations provide an additional 3 billion dollars in scholarships.

A scholarship database can be found in Naviance (all SPS 6th-12th grade students have 24/7 access to Naviance)as well as some of the following resources. You should never pay for access to scholarships you find online.

Scholarship Examples

06/17/2024 – Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited community college or technical school in the United States. Five hundred scholarships of up to $2,500 each are available. Requirements are listed below:

  • Have completed a high school diploma (or equivalency) by July 1
  • Enroll in associate’s degree, certificate, or diploma program by September that will lead to employment (no transfer programs are eligible)
  • Attend a not-for-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
  • Demonstrate critical financial need through Pell eligibility or Family Income below $65,000
  • Be a United States Citizen

The deadline for applications is Monday, June 17, 2024 at 12:00PM.

07/31/2024 – The Flavor of the Month Scholarship

For National Ice Cream Month, students above the age of 14 can earn a scholarship for writing about their favorite ice cream flavor. Scholarships are $1500. Applicants must be residents of the United States or District of Columbia, Students can earn the scholarship by responding to the following question in 250 words or less:

Summer and ice cream go hand-in-hand. In fact, July is National Ice Cream Month, and that’s the inspiration behind this award. We think people are very similar to ice cream; some are nutty, others a little exotic, while some are very comforting. If you were an ice cream flavor, which would you be and why?
