Aki Kurose students and staff head out to the MLK Seattle 2015 event (details below the photo)

Aki Kurose Middle School leadership class students reflected on the reputation of their school, discussed racism and segregation in the community, and connected the meaning of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to their own lives. Students talked to their peers during lunches to learn about the hopes and dreams of Aki students, and taught students how to fold origami peace cranes. Aki students made signs and took part in the MLK Seattle event to march and share these hopes and dreams. They passed out origami peace cranes during the march as a symbol of peace and respect for their school. Leadership class made a video, ‘Aki Kurose – We are the Future‘ to share why it is clear Dr. King’s dream has not yet been realized, and that ‘It is up to us, the young people, to continue the work of MLK and the civil rights movement leaders.’ Watch the Aki Kurose video channel
