    The Professional Library provides access to curriculum and professional development materials for district educators. 


    Electronic resources:


    Q: What is in the Professional Library collection?
    A: The Professional Library provides access to:
    -Instructional materials officially adopted by Seattle Public Schools
    -Other supplemental instructional materials
    -Books on educational philosophy, methodology and research
    -Big books for beginning readers
    -Sets of leveled readers (please do not check out partial sets)
    -Posters (art reproductions, health charts, weather, astronomy and other science posters)
    -Realia (torsos, heart, lungs, eye, ear)

    Q: Who can check materials out of the Professional Library?
    A: You must be on the District payroll to be on the patron list. If a teacher wants a non-District person, a teaching intern for example, to be able to check out materials, that District teacher must give written notice to the librarian that that particular person may check out materials in his/her name for a specified length of time. That teacher will be responsible for the return of those checkouts. Email is sufficient for giving this permission.

    Q: Where is the Professional Library?
    A:We are located on the 2nd floor of Stanford Center. From the main lobby elevator, get off on the second floor. The Library is on your left.

    Q: Can I reserve the Professional Library for a meeting?
    A: The Professional Library is available for small group meetings on a first-come, first-served basis, but is not reservable in Outlook.

    Q:  If I don't have a certain teacher's edition, can I check one out for the semester or year?

    A: The library is a resource shared by all staff members in the district, so library patrons can check library materials out for a month. The Professional Library has only three copies of most of the adopted teacher editions, and these must serve everyone's short term needs for all the years of that adoption.

    Q:  May I come to the Professional Library on when the Librarian is not there?
    A:  Yes! You can either use our manual check-out system on the clipboard next to the catalog computer in the library, or you can email the following information to
    -Your name
    -Phone number and email address
    -Title of each item you are checking out
    -Barcode of each item you are checking out (barcodes are on the back cover of the book, and they start with 308889900 _ _ _ _ _ ).
    Please do not take materials even for a short time without checking them out. Our circulation figures justify the acquisition of resources.

    Q: How do I return library books?
    A: Our mailstop is: Professional Library / JSCEE / Mailstop 33-635. Please pack materials carefully and do not send oversize books through interoffice mail.
