    Summer opportunities for 8th grade students

    It's the time of year when we start getting information about many different kinds of summer opportunities for students who will be transitioning from 8th grade to 9th grade. These include jobs, high-school based programs, volunteer opportunities and more. We will post information links on our website as they come to us, and put hard copies of information and applications (when paper copies are available) in the Summer Binder in our front office.

    Skills Center Summer Program.  The Summer Skills Center Program provides free Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to Seattle Public Schools students entering 9th - 12th grade. Programs include Intro to Aerospace Technology, Automotive Technology, Computer Animation (Cyber Camp),Construction Trades, Culinary Arts and so much more!     In My Backyard Northwest Summer Internship (13-18 yo Students will explore cultural histories, local ecosystems, and personal identity. Students will work closely with college-aged mentors in areas such as college and career planning, resume building and more. $350 stipend upon completion of the mentorship program.     The Rainier Beach Youth Stewards program, is a youth employment program of Tilth Alliance for youth ages 14-18 to gain job experience through wetland restoration and farm education. Youth will spend 15 hours a week at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands participating in weekly themes that range from field management, food distribution, and wetland restoration. Youth will participate in different aspects of a farm operation, learn wetland restoration skills and practices at RBUFW, and build relationships with peers, adult staff, and volunteers. We are currently offering temporary summer positions. Summer crew members will work 15 hours per week for six weeks as part of a cohort of young farmers. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY JUNE 24,2019 Schedule: Starting July 9th for six weeks, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Location: Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands 5513 S Cloverdale Street, Seattle, WA 98118 Pay: Youth will be paid $15/hr and will receive checks bi-weekly.     Lakeside Education Enrichment Program (LEEP). Don't miss the info session Tuesday 3/12 at 6:30 pm. LEEP is free and runs July 8-August 2. Application deadline is April 1, 2019.  

    Ecology Youth Corps is open to students who are 14-17 years old; the deadline is April 16, 2019 for the application and references. www.ecology.wa.gov/EYC
