Peace Crane Press December 2018Dear Aki families,
Thank you for the great turn-out at Student-led conferences!  All evening family engagement events are great opportunities to learn what your student is doing, connect to teachers and staff, and give the school input. If you missed Curriculum Night, Math Night or Student-led conferences, please be sure to check the Source for your student’s progress and to find teacher contact information: click student-family portals at Students who achieve a grade point of 3.0-3.49 (Honorable mention) or 3.5-4.0 (Honor Roll) will be invited to participate in our Principal’s Honor Roll Reception in the late winter. Please continue to encourage your student’s learning and communicate with teachers as needed.
Students at Aki participate in Advisory class every Wednesday morning. In advisory, students rotate weekly among activities including academic goal-setting, community circles, and social-emotional learning, with weekly lesson plans created by teachers on our advisory team. This is the space to learn about processing emotions, build deeper relationships with peers and staff, and plan short and long-term goals. Look for and ask your student about the Hip hop mood meter on our school main entry wall.

Open Enrollment for School Choice will be Feb. 4 until February 15, 2019. Students are assigned a high school based on the student’s home address. Use the address lookup tool at to find the attendance area high school for your address. Students may apply to attend a different high school during open enrollment; it is not guaranteed to get assigned to the school of their choice. To apply for an option school (for example Cleveland High School) or attendance area school other than your assigned school, you must submit a choice application. Visit this web page for detailed information and online forms:
Our computer science students learned a lot on their field trip to TMobile offices in Bellevue, from Q&A with a career panel and hands-on tech activities. Students learned the importance of skills (writing, teamwork, creative thinking, communication), and heard that tech experience can get you in the door, but soft skills then take you farther.
