    Aki students tour UW

    May 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians of Aki Kurose 8th Grade students:

Aki Kurose eighth grade students are nearing the end of their time at Aki Kurose Middle School, and we have important information to share about the end of 8th grade and transition to high school activities. Please find in this letter important information about:
    • Trip to University of Washington for all 8th grade students AND parents/guardians (Friday, June 1)
    • 8th grade Wild Waves field trip (for students only – Thursday, June 21)
    • 8th grade student celebration (for students only – Friday, June 22)
We are excited to share that Aki Kurose eighth graders and their parent/guardian will have an opportunity for a campus visit to the University of Washington on Friday, June 1. Permission slips will be sent home in May and should be returned to science teachers. Parents and guardians, be sure to indicate if you can join us for the trip to UW. We hope to have many 8th grade parents join us for this wonderful opportunity to learn more about financial aid, the application process, college life and how to find support to get your student to college.

Aki Kurose eighth grader students will also have a special field trip to Wild Waves on Thursday, June 21 to celebrate the end of the year and their time at Aki. This trip will include transportation, breakfast, park admission and snacks throughout the day. Please note there is a cost for this trip; watch for the permission form to come home soon with further details.
We know all of our students are capable of exhibiting behavior throughout the year that supports their academic achievement, and this is required for participation on this field trip. When we leave school property, we proudly represent our school community. Closer to the event, our administration team will determine whether each child’s citizenship at school and responsibility for their behavior will allow them to participate in this field trip.

We are excited that our amazing 8th grade class is stepping up to high school.  We want to recognize students’ achievements here in middle school, but at the same time stay focused on the path ahead to success in high school and beyond.  We are really proud of the hard work of our students and staff and all they have accomplished! In the last week of school, 8th grade students will have a day full of activities focused on the 8th graders:
    • For the first part of the day, 8th grade students will go to their regular classrooms, but this will be a time for them to sign yearbooks, have end of year class parties, and receive their certificate of accomplishment for their time here at Aki. Then, students will return to their 1st period classroom to prepare for the 8th grade assembly.
    • The short 8th grade assembly will gear students up for high school, college entry and career expectations.
    • After the assembly, 8th grade students will enjoy a barbeque lunch and time outside with their friends. This will also be a time for them to get those last yearbook signatures.
The 8th grade assembly is limited to 8th grade students only. We encourage you all to celebrate your students’ achievements at home. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of us below.

    Sincerely,
    Mia Williams, Principal
